It’s the little things in life💛

Woke up to see my magnolia trees flowering. It has made my day.

I planted two evergreen magnolia trees 20 years ago at the front when we moved into our home.

Every year I wait eagerly for my trees to bloom at the end of June/early July. They have been consistent and faithful. The large white fragrant blooms look gorgeous although not as profuse as the more common deciduous magnolia trees one sees in the UK that flower in spring.

We just returned from Lucca in Tuscany where the walled city was filled with the fragrance of the evergreen magnolia blooms at night when we walked on the wall. I now look at my own magnolia tress and I have my own little bit of Tuscany right here. 🙏🏽

Take a little time today and everyday to appreciate the little things around you. Life is transient and in today’s fast paced world, it can fly by quicker than ever before.

Have a lovely day.

Dr Nitu 💛

So excited to share with you my interview with The Herald and see such a big spread raising awareness about PCOS.

The more we discuss this common yet under diagnosed condition, the more we can break down barriers, bust myths and have meaningful conversations to empower those living with PCOS with evidence based information.

With knowledge, comes power and hope. The ability to decide what changes one wants to make or can make and to be able seek the right help rather than feeling helpless or dismissed.

Lifestyle changes with or without medications can be life changing for many.

This was @rohinibajekal and my hope when we wrote our book LIVING PCOS FREE

Hope you enjoy the piece.

One of my favourite places to be is in nature. I have lovely memories as a junior doctor in India doing outdoor clinics during my village posting. 👉🏽 (Swipe to see me as a young 20 something intern)
I loved seeing parents while their children laughed and played around them. Tears soon flowed when they realised they had to be jabbed for their vaccine shots to prevent them from dying from deadly infections such as polio, tuberculosis cholera and typhoid.
I am glad I played a small part in saving lives.

I digress down memory lane. I was honoured to be among other British women to be featured in a Dutch newspaper last week for the platinum jubilee. I was glad my 30 years in the NHS did not go unnoticed. Being junior immigrant female doctor of colour was tough but nevertheless I loved my job and have no regrets.

Thank you @nrcnl @justingriffithswilliams
The first picture of me is in my garden. The others working as a doctor and in the recent pandemic.

Happy Sunday 💛

WISE WORDS: MUMS SHOULD NEVER FEEL GUILTY OR BE MADE TO FEEL GUILTY FOR HAVING A CAREER.

✅ Our daughter Naina has a busy editorial job but I am so happy when she writes an article herself as she has such a way with words.

✅ She spoke to Ursula von der Leyen herself an ObGyn and a mother who told her to tell me mums should never feel guilty for having a career.

✅ I never fail to be amazed how persistent she is in ensuring women from all walks of life feature prominently on the cover and inside of @Time magazine regularly.

✅ It’s taken me decades to stop feeling guilty, partly because of societal expectations, despite the fact I never felt neglected and was very proud of my mother a busy career woman who still made time for her family.

✅ To all the women and all the mums out there: Remember you are doing the best you can and let nobody tell you otherwise.

✅ READ NAINA’S
@naina.bajekal article in my stories or better still subscribe to Time magazine.

💛 Give her a FOLLOW as she reads the best books.

💛Posted @withregram • @naina.bajekal I got to spent a couple of hours in New York and Switzerland with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. We talked about the future of the EU, the “small humiliations” women in power are expected to endure, and how her young love of punk music has waned in favor of Adele 🙃 (Seriously, she spent a year bouncing around London under the pseudonym “Rose Ladson”)

Special thanks to all my colleagues who made this better, and to the universe for making sure I somehow didn’t give COVID to the most powerful woman in Europe.

IODINE IN YOUR DIET AND SUPPLEMENTS Swipe left👉🏽

SAVE AND SHARE🙏🏽

✅ Iodine is an important mineral needed to make thyroid hormones.

✅ Iodised salt is not widely available in the UK.

✅ Most people on a plant based diet do not eat seaweed (nori, dulse) regularly, a good plant based source.

✅ SUPPLEMENT
Unless you can get your iodine levels checked regularly, consider supplementing with 150 micrograms of elemental iodine daily.

✅ You should definitely supplement if you are thinking of getting pregnant, are pregnant or breast/chest feeding.

✅ Check with your doctor for individualised advice.

✅ @rohinibajekal and I have dedicated a whole chapter on supplants in our book Living PCOS FREE and present the evidence and bust myths.

🍱 🌱Who loves sushi, vegan sushi💛☝🏽

Every time I do a podcast on reproductive health or on lifestyle medicine, I find it refreshing and enjoyable as every podcast host comes with their own unique questions and viewpoints. Really enjoyed chatting with the wonderful Dave Sheahan. Do check this episode out and would love to know what you think. Posted @withregram • @davesheahan1978 Episode #67 of The MindBodyHealth Podcast just went LIVE on all podcasting platforms and YouTube.

“Living PCOS FREE” with @drnitubajekal

In this episode of The MindBodyHealth Podcast I interview Dr Nitu Bajekal who is a consultant Gynaecologist and a women's health specialist with over 35 years experience. Dr Nitu provides both holistic and medical care for women with a variety of health concerns. She has a specific expertise and passion in areas such as PCOS, painful periods, menopause and such important issues regarding women's health. She has now co-authored "Living PCOS FREE" with her daughter and it's a book that is making a hugely positive impact. These are areas that need to be taken much more seriously and better understood by both men and women and education is the key.

In this podcast episode Dr Nitu clarifies what each condition is. We also discuss the importance of taking personal responsibility for one's health and wellbeing and how all conditions, diseases and ailments are lifestyle related and hence why the starting point needs to always be looking at one's lifestyle and seeing where one can make positive improvements. The medical route is always an important option but one must look at their lifestyle first for cause and to make improvements. We also speak about the power of adopting a wholefood plant based lifestyle and destroy some myths around soya and more. This is a very inspiring and educational episode and I am sure you will enjoy it.

💛It was really funny when my smartphone reminded me it was Rohini’s birthday today. @rohinibajekal

💛I don’t think a mother ever forgets the birthing day of each and everyone of her children. Whether she remembers it with sadness or with joy is a completely different matter, depending on the circumstances.

💛I remember every little detail about the days when I gave birth to Rohini and to her little sister Naina a couple of years later.

💛When I speak to women in my clinic and my friends who have adopted, it is the same. They remember with great clarity not just the day they held their child but all the events leading up to it.

💛I understand completely becoming a mother is not for everybody and more importantly may not be a choice for a lot of people. I don’t mean to offend anyone with this post.

💛I also understand the agony for many young people seeing the climate crisis.

💛I was a lifelong vegetarian, mostly for ethical reasons. It was only when I realised when it was pointed out to me a couple of decades ago first by my brother and then shortly after that by Naina that the baby calf has to be wrenched from its mother, so I could consume dairy milk, cheese and yoghurt that I went vegan. I did not want to be party to that misery anymore. Especially when I had a choice and a healthier one I later came to discover.

💛I had planned just wishing Rohini privately as I normally do but felt this is a particularly special year. I feel so blessed to have written my first book ever along with my daughter. Both my daughters are wise beyond their years and Rohini heavily edited the book making me write using words that everyone could understand while avoiding medical jargon. I am not sure Living PCOS Free would look the way it does without their input.

💛I am so proud of Rohini sharing her own story of living with PCOS. I understand how brave it is of you to do that so others can be helped.

💛💕🌹Happy birthday Rohini. I love you and wish you a wonderful life.

💛It was really funny when my smartphone reminded me it was Rohini’s birthday today. @rohinibajekal 💛I don’t think a mother ever forgets the birthing day of each and everyone of her children.
